Rated 5 out of 5 by from All I Needed! Fluke 117 This 117 is exactly what I needed.. I've tried others that just don't stand up to Flukes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but very heavy. Works fine but VERY heavy. I've used many digital multimeters over the years and this is much heavier than any other I've used. I'd guess twice as heavy as any other. Also, the ToolPak hanger and Fluke brand case are ridiculously expensive. About $45 each. And the probe holders molded into the back are awkward to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Meter. Test Leads Should Be Better. Great meter. I spent a few dollars more to get the contactless voltage sensor which is cool. My only complaint is that the test leads do not have threads to install attachments to the end. That means, after buying a high quality meter, I need to go out and buy better clip leads. Or use the ones on my old meter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great multimeter I got this 117 multimeter and 323 Clamp meter as an Electricians kit, it has been great, I have used both a lot in the last few years being a mobile field service engineer for generators and CHP units. I would say it does everything I needed, but it does not measure below 1mA. its a shame but hey, never mind, I had to use my Dad's 30+ years old Fluke 23 to measure 0.01mA for precise 4-20mA signal conditions. if it was not for needing 0.01mA readings, its all I need, can't fault it, great multimeter, love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Meter for Electricians and DIYer's I purchased the 117 based on reviews and the Fluke reputation; it is my third digital multimeter and second Fluke (the other is a clamp DMM I use mostly for testing amperage). Despite the ambiguous complaints posted by others, this is a solid multimeter. The large 6,000 count display makes the meter easy-to-read and understand; as long as you are looking directly at the screen. My only (minor) complaint is if the screen is looked at - even slightly - from above, the digits disappear, but for me this is only a minor inconvenience. The meter feels solid and robust in the hands and not easily damaged. The non-contact voltage sensor is very sensitive, especially when set to "HI", which makes it ideal when checking for electrical wires inside of walls. I have zero "buyer's remorse" and will use this meter for a long time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fluke quality but missing features Fluke makes arguably the highest quality multimeters you can buy. But it's unfortunate they choose to remove features from more expensive models. The Fluke 116 and 115, for example, both have features the 117 lacks. Why? It would probably cost Fluke an extra dollar or two to put ALL the features of the 11X series into the 117 (or create a 118 that has all features). It's almost as if Fluke wants you to buy multiple meters for different tasks when one meter could easily do everything. I don't have a problem with a product line optimized for electronics, another for automotive, and a third for electricians. But here we have one confusing product line with a mish-mash of almost random features. The Fluke multimeter comparison on the website is also wrong and missing data. For example, it shows "n/a" under DC and AC current for the 117 which is incorrect. That's just one of many such errors making an already confusing situation more confusing. Fluke is great at engineering high quality meters but the products are inconsistent, confusing, and the features often seem poorly thought out. Fluke also has inexplicably discontinued, at least in North America, several multimeters that offer more features and performance per dollar than their current offerings. Why? The Fluke 87, 15B, and several others, were legendary great meters. Fluke's marketing choices are beyond disappointing as they no longer offer ANY full featured reasonably priced multimeters. Every current model in North America is either missing one or more key features you can find in even very inexpensive competitive products or it's so expensive (like the 289) you could literally buy a dozen similarly featured competitive meters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A new standard As head electro-mechanical tech I often get asked what meters we should buy for new technicians. My standby, no-questions-asked has always been the 87-V. I've trusted that meter for fifteen years in all kinds of abusive environments. There are times when the 87-V is necessary. However for 95% of the work our electro-mech techs are doing in a 18 acre production factory, this meter fits the bill, and it's smaller, lighter, cheaper, and better display than the 87. Time will tell how it holds up - some take issue with the single molded case, but to be honest I hated having to take the 87's off anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for everyday use Solid multimeter for everyday use by an electrician. Large display is easy to read. Easy to select functions even with gloves on using the large dial. Ready to roll right out of the package and continues to out perform day after day..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect amount of features I bought this a week ago for home repairs. I used the non-contact voltage function to detect any wires behind walls before cutting into them since I could follow the wiring starting from the switch and moving backwards - something you cannot do with voltage pens. I've also use the probes themselves for test for voltage after turning off the panel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable I bought this meter years ago. I am an Industrial Electrician and automation specialist and use this meter everyday. It's actually my go to meter for what I do. I used to carry a clamp meter by fluke and it works great but the 117 for what I do is more fitting for the job. This meter does everything I need. If this meter doesn't do something it's reading milliamps unfortunately. But I break out my 87 for that which I usually use on my more intricate stuff anyway. The 117 is the 10-in-1 screwdriver of meters for me. I covers a broad spectrum of capabilities in my field and I love mine. Great investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for quick checks This meter with the non contact voltage detector has added a higher margin of safety when having to cut into a wall. Knowing that the circuit is live or dead and it's approximate location has made things niche better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly an Electricians meter As a defense contractor working on Navy ships I use the FLUKE 117 Electricians Digital Multimeter daily. Before any work can begin Absents of Voltage checks must be accomplished as required by both OSHA and Navy’s TUMs. This meter works great. The large selector switch knob makes it easy to use while wearing rubber gloves. The display has large white LED backlit with large digits. It is easy to read in dark locations. The meter can be used with the FLUKE SV225 Stray Voltage Eliminator to prevent false reading from ghost voltage. Very versatile meter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellant for the job I have 12 general maintenance technicians, in an industrial environment, that have to deal with measuring voltages on the machines for lockout and troubleshooting purposes. The fluke 117 has proved itself to be the meter of choice. It has enough features to do the job at hand but not too many that complicates job performance. We have the Fluke 187s and Fluke 287s to do the more technical readings but 95% of our needs are just verifying voltages and continuity

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great meter As a maintenance guy, I rely on the 117 to trouble shoot every thing from hvac to boilers to electric panels. I like the non-contact voltage detection, it's fast and easy. The true RMS is a must for checking battery backups. The meter is compact and well built. Don't let the made in china hold you back, this meter is Fluke through and through. If I could change anything it would be the off postion would be all the way left not the AutoVolt. But I have gotten used to it. Add a fluke 324 clamp meter and you are set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FLUKE..ONCE AGAIN THE BOTTOM LINE Looking for a high quality multimeter I purchased a Fluke 117 True RMS unit, not only is it high quality, but it is very easy to use, the meter is very accurate, and the unit stays where you put it, excellent design, functions, a True Multimeter, just another great Fluke product to keep on the truck" along with our other Fluke units.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Piece of mind As a home gamer- a fluke could be seen as overkill- but I do believe in high quality tools and their products have been recommended by electrical engineering friends. I can see why- well made products. This replaces lower quality meter that have had a tendency to die when you need them for troubleshooting. Been very pleased with this so far- enough features and sensitivity for my use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable Fluke isn't known for being the most affordable option, and that's not always a bad thing. It's reliable and consistent and that is whats important to me. This meter delivers as expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite meter! I've owned several Fluke meters and products over the years and the 117 is by far my favorite. All the functions I need daily, plus a few others that come in handy. Super sturdy and the blue back light on screen helps to keep the display readings sharp in the dark. I like the no contact volt alert for a quick troubleshoot and helps keep my bag lighter since I don't have to bring more than 1 meter to get the job done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for HVAC Techs! I bought this a month or so ago after my field piece meter stop working correctly. I love Everything about it. Everything I'll ever need for troubleshooting is available in this unit even a backlit display which is a huge plus for me. Amazing product! Good Job Fluke!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Intuitive Multimeter I have had one of these for over a year now and it still works great. It's easy to use because the different selections are easy to decipher. I have loaned it to inexperienced people and recommended this multimeter to others who love how simple it is to learn how to use. Yes you can buy a really cheap meter, but it can be a learning curve to figure out what the right settings are. This meter takes the majority of the gues work out and is durable.
Date published: 2016-12-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the investment I spent hours searching and contemplating the right multimeter for me. In the end, I concluded that this would be the most cost effective and accurate since it is so durable and will likely last my lifetime. My philosophy is "Do it right, do it once." It's also been a great way to teach my son about simple electronics. He's always asking if he can use it. I also like a lot of the safety features that protect me and itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic unit for the price! After having gone through several cheap multimeters over the years and never being satisfied with any of their user experiences I finally decided to go for a fluke. While this is far from their top of the line it has been amazing for me. The results are quick and accurate. The built quality is fantastic and I feel no issue with throwing it in my live sound gig bag and heading out. I purchased the master accessory set tlk 225 as well, and everything had been immensely easier and safer to measure with the variety of leads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great Had this multimeter for almost a year and haven't had a problem with it yet. Does everything I want with only one exception. I wish it had microamps, otherwise it does everything I need it for. A useful feature is the auto-ranging for volts. Use it from home use as well as at my job as facilities maintenance.
